Dance School

Now moving into its 20th year, HSD philosophies remain the same. We strive to make your dance experience a positive, productive and rewarding one. Whether you are recreational, competitive or enrolled in exams, our focus is to offer each student proper dance training while maintaining fun, high energy, exciting classes.

HSD offers three streams of focus: competitive, recreational and exam preparation. Within these three streams students have the opportunity to work with fellow dancers in both large and small group settings. Solo options are also available to dancers at the discretion of the dance school principal.

Studio Policies

Student Behaviour
HSD expects students to be respectful of teachers, parents and peers and does not tolerate rudeness, bullying, poor attitude or gossiping. Parents will be notified of any problems. Successful dancers are supportive of their peers!

Parent Behaviour
Parents are the most important link between their children and their teacher. We want this to be a positive link, and therefore, the same behaviour expected of your child is expected of you. Complaints regarding other parents or students should be brought to Kelly's attention immediately and the parties involved will be dealt with accordingly. Please do not condone inappropriate behaviour by allowing it to continue.

Attendance
Attendance is mandatory and will be taken at each regular class. Parents are required to notify the office if a student is unable to attend. Excused abences include illness, family function, school function (no refunds). Parents will be notified after two (2) unexcused absences.

Competitive students missing more than three (3) classes will not be allowed to compete. No refunds.

Recreational students missing more than five (5) classes will not be permitted to perform in the year end recital. No refunds.

Student Drop Off / Pick Up
Parents are asked to drop students off no earlier than 15 minutes prior to class and to pick them up immediately following. HSD does not offer babysitting services.

Food Allergies
In an effort to respect student allergies and limit any potential cause for concern, HSD asks that students DO NOT bring any products that contain, or may contain, peanuts.

Class Wear
For proper dance attire for your child's class, please visit Applause Dance & Active Wear. Shelley has been given a list of requirements for each class and will ensure that your child is properly fitted. Proper attire is required for each class. Be sure not to leave your dance wear shopping until the last minute!

Team Wear
HSD track suits are also available and orders can be placed through Applause. Students must go to the store in order to try on sample sizes for proper fitting.

Workshops

Workshops will be offered at HSD during the year. Students eligible to attend will be notified. Specific information will be available at the front desk and will be posted on the studio bulletin board. Dancers are encouraged to attend workshops.
